Inspired by the phenomenological principles of the California Light + Space movement, our studio approaches interiors through the interplay of materials, color, and form. Softness is balanced with structure, atmosphere with function, and beauty with authentic, at times unexpected personal moments.
We create environments that feel deeply considered and reflective of the people within them through thoughtful design principles, layered materiality and an understanding that comfort, familiarity, and emotional resonance matter just as much as aesthetics.
Material Color Form was founded by Maureen Meyer in Los Angeles, California. After working in various dimensions of retail and fashion design in New York City for eleven years, Maureen moved to the West Coast in 2015. The shift in her surroundings—specifically light, architecture and color palettes—inspired her return to fine art, where she spent the next ten years studying and developing a studio practice comprised of experimental animation, mixed media work and painting. When substantial life changes presented the opportunity to design the interiors for a close friend’s new home, Maureen found her nexus. The interior design process enabled her to draw on the skills and interests she had spent her career developing: composition, surface relationships and most notably, the intersection of art, design and the human experience.
